When the vehicle’s speed is higher than the sound velocity, the air before will be compressed and a shock wave appears. In hypersonic situation, the Mach number exceeds 5, the gas temperature behind the shock wave is very high and the gas vibration, dissociation, ionization, chemical reaction are exited. A team led by Dr. Chen Wei from the Hypervelocity Aerodynamics Institute of China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center (CARDC), who devote to the optical spectrum research of hypersonic flow, innovatively developed the saturated absorption spectroscopy under studying the foreign advanced techniques. In their method, sub-millimeter spatial resolution could be achieved by the named point measurement laser absorption spectroscopy (PMLAS) with crossing a frequency synchronized saturation beam to the probe beam, which has good application prospect in diagnosis of the non-uniform, unsteady and un-equilibrium high-temperature gas flow.
